The playbook Moonrank's Writer Agent uses to turn audience, competitor, and demand research into a decision-ready brief — findings ranked by confidence, ending in a recommendation.
Download the methodology, see how the agent finds the gap, or run it live inside the Writer Agent.
The Market Research skill is how Moonrank's Writer Agent grounds content and positioning in evidence: mapping who buys and the words they use, sizing demand with numbers instead of adjectives, reading what competitors claim and what they leave unanswered, and naming the gap worth playing in.
It's written as a SKILL.md, a plain-language instruction format that people and AI agents can both follow. Read it to structure your own research sprints, use it to stop strategy debates from restarting at zero, or let the Writer Agent run the research and hand you the brief.
Downloading the playbook is free with a Moonrank account. Keeping the research current as markets and competitors move is what the Writer Agent does.
“We're launching in a new vertical next quarter. What should the content say, and to whom?”
The research resolves to one page. Audience: two segments, and the language they use for the problem — quoted from 40 reviews and 6 sales calls — doesn't contain your product category's name once. Demand: the problem terms draw 8,100 monthly searches, up 34% year over year. Competitors: all 4 target the enterprise buyer and none answers the pricing objection that appears in 19 of the 40 reviews. Recommendation: own the mid-market pricing question first — confidence high, and the brief says exactly what evidence would change it.

The one sentence that scopes everything — research without it expands forever.
Buyer, user, and blocker segments, with their language quoted from reviews, forums, and calls.
Search volumes, trend direction, and seasonality — numbers, not adjectives.
Positioning claim, pricing, content target, and unanswered objection for the top 3–5.
Where demand exists and the competitor set is weak — stated in two sentences.
What to do next, how sure the evidence is, and what would change the call.
